What I learned during my summer semester.

My 3.7 GPA, on the Dean's list every semester record is bollix for this semester. However, I did learn something with my classes this summer.

I learned that people never respond to my well thought out & lengthy posts & chose to respond to 2 sentence answers. I learned that college students don't know the difference between ARE country and OUR country (guess which they used?). I learned that posting drivel in response to someones drivel is more important than giving an answer that actually -adds- something, and people would rather just be typing to meet the requirements of the syllabus than adding something to the discussion.  I learned that when the whole class is supposed to answer the same 8-10 questions on each chapter, it's more than alright to not quote when we take text right from the book (silly me with my quotations and my citations, right?), and in fact copying the answer verbatim directly from the book and not even adding your own thoughts or anything is perfectly alright.  I also learned that despite the fact we are all answering the same questions for that class, we should all post and say we agree and copy MORE information from the book to support the fact that we agree with what the answer is and we ourselves had to write down because there was only ONE bloody answer.  I learned that reading outside information and thoroughly reading the book in order to provide the most thoughtful and informative answers is a waste of time, because it's the discussion that counts for more points than the actual work.  I learned you should just be concerned with busy work instead of actually learning the subject you're supposed to be learning.  I learned that participating in the discussion board the last few weeks in a failed effort to raise my grade up did nothing but cause my brain cells to die when I read things that a 5th grader would have enough intelligence to know wasn't the correct way to write - and that writing correctly (you know, writing things that actually make sense if you're not a drunk chimpanzee who just dropped some acid) and using proper syntax, grammar, spelling and punctuation is simply a -suggestion- in college, and I've been doing it wrong the whole 5 semesters I've been going.

Silly me - Im in yur cullege, doin it rong.

  • I hate my college sometimes, seriously.

So the online course for Abnormal Psych started today. Great, no biggie. I sign into that class and see a note from the Professor telling me the first four assignments for the class are going to be watching video clips on a CD that came with my text I purchased at the GRCC bookstore. Only problem with that is my text (which I DID purchase at the GRCC bookstore) did NOT come with a CD.

So I do what any responsible adult, college student should do: email the Professor, and then make a call to the GRCC bookstore to see what in the heck is going on. I was told by an employee at the bookstore that I was not the first person to call about this (she told me they had been swamped with calls about this), and the reason that I didn't get a CD with the book is because one was never ORDERED by that department/class for Abnormal Psych., and they were waiting on a call back from the department to see what the heck was going on. She said to call back tomorrow and someone should be able to tell me what I'll be able to do regarding this.

I get home from running around doing errands for 5 hours in the heat to get into my email to find this reply from my Professor (whom I already dislike):

    Hello Elaine,

You are responsible for getting the correct text which is available in the GRCC Bookstore, you can not complete the course without it. Professor Rhoden

Small issue with that, since I did NOT get a CD with the book I purchased, and have no way to watch the videos and then comment on them in the discussion board. What can I do to rectify this? I have no way to be able to buy another book, nor any idea how to get the CD...I'm rather worried on how this will affect my grade, so if you could provide any help, I would appreciate it.

REALLY? SERIOUSLY? You people don't tell the bookstore that the CD has to be with the book, and it's my fracking responsibility???? This means I'm going to have to by an entire book WITH said CD (if I can find one) or buy the CD (again, IF I can find one) and hope I can get it by Saturday so I have time to watch the video clips and answer the questions about them. And hope I have the money to do either one of those things before Saturday, if either one of those things are even going to be possible, and the book itself was over $100 used (just like the other ones).

This school is a fracking joke. MY grade might suffer, by no fault of my own. MY awesome GPA and standing on the Dean's list might suffer because someone can't get their crap in a group. I will definitely be calling not only the bookstore tomorrow, I'm going to be calling not only the psychology department, but the Dean's office as well. Which I SHOULDN'T have to do. Because this isn't my damned fault.
